Book Release: "Transgender Children and Youth: Cultivating Pride and Joy with Families in Transition"

Assistant Professor Elijah C. Nealy, Ph.D., M.Div., LCSW, new book, "Transgender Children & Youth: Cultivating Pride and Joy with Families in Transition," is available for pre-order.

These days, it is practically impossible not to hear about some aspect of transgender life. Whether it is the bathroom issue in North Carolina, trans people in the military, or on television, trans life has become front and center after years of marginalization. As society has become more understanding of issues around gender diversity, children and adolescents that experience gender dysphoria are coming out to their families and other supportive adults at increasingly younger ages. However, few mental health providers and educators have been trained in areas of gender identity and expression.

Assistant Professor Elijah C. Nealy, Ph.D., M.Div., LCSW, is a professor in the Department of Social Work and Latino Community Practice at USJ. As an out transgender man, he has spent the past 25 years working extensively within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities.
